Error Message: "Envision cannot be opened because of a problem."

Hi there.

When I attempted to start the Envision software today, it said an update was available, so I clicked it. The update appeared to download. When I clicked the icon on my mac to get it started, I got a pop up menu that said it wasn't able to be opened "because of a problem." It's saying I need to check with the developer to see if Envision works with this version of Mac OS X. Also says I may need to reinstall the application.

I'm afraid to reinstall it, as I am in the middle of writing 3 shows right now. I've had this program for a year, and this has never happened. What do I suggest I do?

Thanks. Error message below:

Hi mzellous,

I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems. In the course of normal feature updates its possible that we may have come across a compatibility issue older OSs. I will try and confirm if this is the case for you.

There might also be something wrong with the update, in which case a full reinstall should do the trick. Show files are stored in a separate place on your computer from the program files so doing a reinstall shouldn't have any effect on them. But if you want to be extra safe all the files relating to your shows are stored in your Documents/EnVision folder. You can make a copy of this folder so you can restore it later if anything happens to it. Your license file is also stored in this folder so there should be no problem with deactivating your software.

If a reinstall of the current version doesn't work for you then you can revert back to the previous released version by downloading it here: EnVision_Mac_Setup_v1.7.12.pkg

Please let me know if you have any trouble getting back to work.

Have a great day!

Thanks, William. The link you provided helped me - but I had to ignore the update. Will I need to do that every time?

Good news!

We have tracked down the issue that was causing this and uploaded a new version. You should now be able to update EnVision and experience the improvements of v1.7.13!

Have a great day!
